The tragedy unfolded at a residence on Huss Street, located on the northeast side of the city, prompting an immediate and extensive response from local law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m., officers from the Tiffin Police Department arrived at the home after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered two adult men and two children suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the children was transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, the child later died. The second child and both adult men were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Police Chief David Pauly, investigators have concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, though authorities have not yet confirmed which of the adults fired the weapon. A handgun was recovered inside the home. Chief Pauly also noted that preliminary findings indicate there were no known family connections between the two adults and the two children. The identities of the victims have not yet been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
A woman who was present in the home at the time of the shooting survived the incident unharmed. Police have stated she is not considered a suspect, though investigators continue to interview witnesses and gather information to determine the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting Tiffin police in the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether all gunfire occurred inside the residence, and they continue to process the scene as more details emerge.
Residents in the surrounding area reported a heavy police presence throughout the evening as officers secured the scene and began the painstaking process of reconstructing the events that led to the shooting. Authorities have emphasized that this is an active and developing investigation, and additional updates will be provided as information becomes available.
